English furniture: Chippendale, Regency, Chesterfield and Heldense
English furniture stands for mahogany, leather, brass and a tradition of craftsmanship that has remained virtually unchanged since the 18th century. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you will find a changing selection of English-style furniture and originals: Chippendale display cabinets with mullioned glass, Chesterfield sofas and -armchairs in leather, English desks with leather tops, Regency dining tables with double-column bases, bookcases, occasional and nesting tables, tea trolleys and wingback chairs. Including pieces by manufacturers such as Bevan Funnell and Heldense, refurbished in our Berlin workshop.
English styles at a glance
- Chippendale: Mahogany, curved legs with claw feet, pierced chair backs, mullioned glass. Our own collection: Chippendale.
- Regency (around 1800–1830): More linear, with brass inlays, saber legs and neoclassical motifs. Column-base dining tables, sofa tables, sideboards.
- Victorian and Edwardian (1837–1910): More opulent, with dark mahogany and walnut, inlays, wingback chairs and Chesterfield sofas.
- Chesterfield: Leather with deep button tufting and rolled armrests. Available as sofas, armchairs and dining chairs. See Sofas and Armchairs.
- English-style furniture of the 20th century: Bevan Funnell (Reprodux), Heldense and other workshops that continued the old forms to a high standard.

English display cabinets and bookcases, desks with leather tops, dining tables and chairs, sideboards, chests of drawers and bedside tables, occasional tables and tea trolleys: Each category has its own collection, where you can filter by style.
Why English furniture?
Mahogany is hard, dimensionally stable and becomes darker and more beautiful over the years. English furniture is built for everyday use, not for display. An English desk or a Chesterfield sofa is usually in better condition after 50 years than a new piece of furniture after five. Photos from all sides, dimensions and a condition description are provided for every piece.

Frequently asked questions about English furniture
What is the difference between Chippendale and Regency?
Chippendale (from 1750 onward) is curved and playful, while Regency (from 1800 onward) is linear and neoclassical. Both are made of mahogany, and both are represented in this collection.
Are these originals or reproductions?
Both. Originals from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as 20th-century English-style furniture, which we identify as such. We name manufacturers such as Bevan Funnell or Heldense when the piece is stamped.
How do I care for mahogany?
Dust with a dry cloth, occasionally use silicone-free polish, avoid direct sunlight and do not place wet glasses on it.
Does English furniture fit in a modern home?
As a single piece, yes: a Chesterfield in a white room, or a mahogany desk in a modern home office.
