Furniture by Style and Period: Antiques, Mid-Century, Art Deco & More
Looking for a piece of furniture from a particular period or in a specific style? At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you’ll find over 2,000 restored one-of-a-kind pieces spanning more than 250 years of furniture history, from the Baroque period to the 1970s. Each piece is inspected and cleaned in our Berlin workshop and listed in our store with photos, measurements, and an honest condition report.
Antique Furniture
- Baroque: curved shapes, carvings, gilding. Original pieces from the 18th century and Baroque-style furniture, such as pieces by Selva.
- Biedermeier (1815–1850): simple, light-colored furniture made of cherry and birch, especially dressers and secretaries.
- Louis Philippe (from 1830): walnut, softly rounded shapes, dressers, secretaries, and chairs with balloon backs.
- Gründerzeit (1870–1900): solid wardrobes, vertikos, and buffets made of oak and walnut.
- Art Nouveau (around 1900): floral ornaments, curved lines, brass fittings, and faceted glass.
- Find all periods before 1920 under Antiques.
English Furniture
English Furniture is known for mahogany, leather, and traditional craftsmanship. This includes Chippendale-display cabinets and chairs, as well as the Chesterfield-sofa with button tufting. Find English-style furniture in yew and mahogany under Heldense.
Art Deco and Mid-Century
Art Deco (1920s and 30s) features fine woods, burl wood, and clean, elegant shapes. Mid-Century (50s to 70s) is known for teak, slender legs, and Danish design: especially popular are Mid-Century Sideboards and Mid-Century Dressers, and from East Germany, furniture by Hellerau.
Period-Style Furniture and Originals
Alongside original pieces, we also carry high-quality period-style furniture, meaning newer furniture made in the style of a particular period. Each listing tells you what it is: an original or a reproduction in the style.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell if a piece of furniture is an original?
Look at its construction, wood, old fittings, stamps, and patina. We list anything that can be verified for each piece. We label period-style furniture accordingly.
Can I combine furniture from different periods?
Yes, that’s exactly what makes a room feel alive. A Biedermeier secretary next to a mid-century armchair often looks more interesting than a matching set.
Do you also buy furniture?
Yes. We buy vintage and antique furniture in good condition. Send us photos and a short description through our Furniture Buyingpage, and we’ll get back to you with an offer.
