Warranty & Service

Insured delivery

Within Germany, your furniture is not delivered by an anonymous freight company but by our own drivers in our own truck – carefully packed and insured. In Berlin we carry it into your home; elsewhere in Germany we deliver to the curbside. If needed, the driver is happy to lend a hand. Deliveries to other European countries are handled by a freight company specialising in antiques, also insured.

Before delivery, we call you to arrange a 2-hour time window. Please provide your mobile number when ordering. Additional costs may apply for deliveries to islands.

Do you have a special delivery request? Feel free to contact us personally.

30-day return policy

You have a 30-day right of return: if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return the piece in unchanged condition within 30 days of receipt.

A short message is all it takes – on request, we will organise the return transport with our own drivers. We offset the transport costs against the refund, and you will promptly receive the remaining purchase price.

Stories

“You can see how much work went into restoring it. The armchair feels brand new, but it has retained the soul of its former self.”

Marina Gruz

I didn’t want an off-the-shelf piece of furniture, but something with a story. The armchair and the small table beside it turn an empty corner into the most beautiful spot in the apartment.

Eva-Maria Drewes

I didn’t want a plastic desk for my child. This one is 60 years old, and the chair with the green leather fits as though the two had always belonged together. The furniture will probably still be around for their children.

Armchairs: vintage armchairs, wingback chairs, cocktail chairs, and club chairs

A good armchair is where you end up in the evening. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you'll find a changing selection of vintage and antique armchairs: the cocktail chair from the 1950s, the wingback chair with a high back, the leather club chair , the Chesterfield armchair with button tufting, the Danish lounge chair with a teak frame, and the Baroque armchair with a gilded frame. Plus stools, chairs, and seating groups. All restored in our Berlin workshop.

Armchairs by style

  • cocktail chair: Low backrests, tapered legs, colorful fabrics. The classic of the 1950s, sold individually or as a pair. See also Mid-Century.
  • wingback chair: High back with side wings, an English tradition. With a matching footstool for the reading chair.
  • Club chairs and Chesterfields: Deep seats, patinated leather, button tufting. From Art Deco club chairs to English Chesterfields.
  • Danish and Scandinavian armchairs: Teak or oak frame, wool upholstery, designers such as Hans Wegner or Illum Wikkelsø, where documented.
  • Baroque and Louis XV armchairs: Curved wooden frames, velvet or brocade. See Baroque.
  • Cantilever and Bauhaus armchairs: Tubular steel and leather, based on Breuer and Mies van der Rohe.

Used armchairs: what we look for

With upholstered furniture, the interior construction is what matters: coil springs, webbing, and foam. We inspect the frame and upholstery and clean the leather and fabric. Whether an armchair has its original upholstery or has been reupholstered is stated for each piece, along with photos from all sides, dimensions, and a condition description.

Frequently asked questions about armchairs

What is the difference between a cocktail chair and a club chair?

The cocktail chair is light and narrow and stands on slender wooden legs, typical of the 1950s. The club chair is heavy, deep, and usually made of leather, typical of the 1920s to 1940s.

Can an old armchair be reupholstered?

Yes, this is common with vintage armchairs and preserves the frame for decades to come.

Which armchair goes with a vintage sofa?

Not necessarily the same one. A cocktail chair beside a simple sofa or a leather armchair with a fabric sofa creates a livelier look than a complete set.

Are old armchairs comfortable?

Often more comfortable than new ones because coil springs and horsehair adapt to the body. You can try it out in the showroom.
