Warranty & Service

Insured delivery

Within Germany, your furniture is not delivered by an anonymous freight company but by our own drivers in our own truck – carefully packed and insured. In Berlin we carry it into your home; elsewhere in Germany we deliver to the curbside. If needed, the driver is happy to lend a hand. Deliveries to other European countries are handled by a freight company specialising in antiques, also insured.

Before delivery, we call you to arrange a 2-hour time window. Please provide your mobile number when ordering. Additional costs may apply for deliveries to islands.

Do you have a special delivery request? Feel free to contact us personally.

30-day return policy

You have a 30-day right of return: if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return the piece in unchanged condition within 30 days of receipt.

A short message is all it takes – on request, we will organise the return transport with our own drivers. We offset the transport costs against the refund, and you will promptly receive the remaining purchase price.

Stories

“You can see how much work went into restoring it. The armchair feels brand new, but it has retained the soul of its former self.”

Marina Gruz

I didn’t want an off-the-shelf piece of furniture, but something with a story. The armchair and the small table beside it turn an empty corner into the most beautiful spot in the apartment.

Eva-Maria Drewes

I didn’t want a plastic desk for my child. This one is 60 years old, and the chair with the green leather fits as though the two had always belonged together. The furniture will probably still be around for their children.

Sofas: Vintage Sofas, Chesterfield, Biedermeier and Mid-Century

A vintage sofa has something no new sofa has: a solid wood frame, a spring core, and a design that has stood the test of time. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you'll find a changing selection of sofas from every era: the Chesterfield sofa in leather with button tufting, the Biedermeier sofa in cherry wood, the Danish three-seater sofa with a teak frame, the 1950s sofa with angled legs, and the Baroque sofa with a gilded frame. Plus chaise longues, recamier sofas, and seating groups. All restored in our Berlin workshop.

Sofas by style

  • Chesterfield sofa: Leather, deep button tufting, rolled armrests. An English classic, available as a two- or three-seater.
  • Mid-Century sofa: Danish and German sofas from the 1950s to the 1970s, with teak or walnut frames and wool or leather upholstery. See Mid-Century.
  • Biedermeier and Gründerzeit sofa: Wooden frames in cherry, walnut, or mahogany, with curved backs. See antiques.
  • Baroque and Louis XV sofa: Gilded frames, velvet, or brocade. See Baroque.
  • Chaise longue and recamier: Daybeds with one backrest, from Biedermeier to Art Deco.

Used sofas: what we look for

With upholstered furniture, it's what you can't see that counts: the frame, webbing, and springs. We inspect the construction and clean the leather and fabric. Whether a sofa has its original upholstery or has been reupholstered is stated for every piece, along with photos from all sides, dimensions, and a condition description.

Try out sofas in Berlin

At the showroom in Berlin-Lichtenberg you'll find sofas from every era across 4,000 m², Mon–Thu and Sat from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., no appointment needed. Have a seat and stay as long as you like.

Over 24,000 customers, 4.9 stars on Google and Trustpilot. We deliver across Germany, securely packaged and insured.

Frequently asked questions about sofas

Are old sofas comfortable?

Solid wood sofas with spring cores are often more comfortable than new foam sofas and last longer. You can try one out in the showroom.

Will the sofa fit through my door?

The dimensions are listed for every piece. The legs can be unscrewed on many old sofas, making them easier to transport.

Can a vintage sofa be reupholstered?

Yes, that's common and worthwhile for well-made frames.

Which armchair goes with the sofa?

It doesn't have to match. A leather armchair with a fabric sofa, or a cocktail chair with a simple three-seater, creates a livelier look than a complete set.
